Puzzles in a range developed by Dr Amanda Gummer who is a mum of two who has many years experience working with children and evaluation the array of toys and games aimed at them. With the my world range bright colourful puzzles they are not only fun but also developmentally appropriate for children.
The fairy tale puzzle box includes 4 puzzles with 4, 6, 8, and 12 pieces which encourages your child to feel achievement as they progress to being able to master each puzzle.
Each puzzle set includes a leaflet of helpful hints to ensure you get the most out of these puzzles.
To extend the play value Ideas include
Point to an item in the puzzle picture and ask your child to identify it. Then carry on the discussion about the item prompting him or her with open ended questions as necessary ie questions beginning with who, why, what, etc.
Read the words of the fairy tale, pointing to each word as you say it, then progress onto asking your child to read the words for him/herself.
Help your child finish the fairy tale and then progress onto encouraging him/her to make up a new ending or even a new story to fit the picture.
Encourage your child to adopt a logical approach to soling the puzzle - eg: lining up the edges to make a straight line, matching colours and looking at the box for help if necessary.
Talk to your child about how the characters in the puzzle are feeling. What are their expressions? Do they look happy or sad? Do these feelings change during the fairy tale? Progress to talking to your child about how they would feel in similar situations.
